Chroma Arcana is a Mage vs. Mage card battler structured around building decks from a collection of coloured magic, each one leaning into a different theme. Roc Nest Games describes it as "TCG-style play, without the boosters", and you can easily see how that plays through as you construct your decks ready for battle.
It's primarily a PvP game, though it also provides a dedicated solo mode (which I haven't played yet, but I have added a late pledged).
Playing The Game

I always take time out to play the games I shoot to really get an understanding of how it plays and how best to present it in the photos we deliver.
Chroma Arcana was no exception, except I probably played it more than any other game I've shot due to my little minion constantly asking to play it when we had some down time.
The combination of different magic types, the ability to chose a different Ego each time and the fact that she destroyed me every time made this a firm favourite both before and after the shoot!
A Focus on Gameplay
For Chroma Arcana, the gameplay mechanics and the variety of the spells, Ego's, and primary magic made it easy to decide to focus on how the game plays, and to highlight that wonderful art in the process (more on that later!).
By pulling in close it really helps the players get a feel for the depth of gameplay that's available here, highlighting the different ways in which the Ego's bring something different to the table and the variety of spells the player has available to them.
By also taking shots from further out, it allowed us to really push the PvP nature of the game, pitting on mage against another.
I also really wanted to bring out the colours of the game - each spell, Ego, potion and minion is so colourful that it makes the table sing when it's laid out. By using a darker table for the game and pulling out the saturation and vividness, it really helps the board and the cards pop from the table.

The Art. My God The Art
The artwork in Chroma Arcana is nothing short of stunning. Every single card has unique and custom artwork presented in a way that is simply beautiful to look at.
Every Ego is unique and stands out next to the others, every spell is perfectly illustrated against it's description and the minions just look fantastic. To say the artwork is one of the defining elements of this game is an understatement.
I need to make sure this artwork was a clear focus for the shoot so potential players could see just how good it looked. While we made sure the art way vivid and on show in the gameplay photos, pack photography was perfect for this - allowing us to lay out just how good everything looks.
